‘A level of service we’ve never seen before on any US Airforce base.’

- Mike Walker, Senior Contracts Manager

RAF Lakenheath is the largest US Air Force operated base in Europe.

Located in Suffolk, the site comprises of aircraft hangars, a command centre, vehicle buildings and a simulator space. All were to be upgraded. We were recommended for the tender because of previous successful work for an MOD client.

We were successful, winning the initial contract that included commissioning management and water treatment requiring high security clearance. As the project developed, it became clear that there were additional management, technical consultancy and project-specific responsibilities that needed to be fulfilled. This was due in part to additional reports required by the RAF.

Thanks to our good performance on site, we were approached by the Project Director to ask if we would consider taking on some additional roles and responsibilities. We were pleased to accept, and our role expanded to include delivery of more detailed management and reporting procedures, as well as hands-on delivery of acoustic and environmental testing.

A major success on site was offering an optimised environmental commissioning service for the simulator rooms. The simulators generate a lot of heat, and the HVAC system needs to satisfy whatever heat is generated. Our client reported that this was a level of service that had never been seen before on any similar US Airforce project.
