Southbank Place comprises 8 high-end residential towers close to Waterloo Station, SE1. It’s on the site of the former Shell buildings, not far from The London Eye. Works included commissioning management of power, heating and cooling across the site. Our bid was preferred by the main contractor because of our recent successes and our safety record.
The initial program already demanded that we would manage efficiently, as is common in construction today. And we set out with a well-scoped project plan that ensured power and water was delivered around the site quickly to allow others to get to work. A big part of our efforts involved communicating with site contractors to maintain a busy schedule. We needed to make sure everyone had what they needed, at the right time, for the job they were carrying out.
When Covid-19 hit in 2020, things were made more difficult. Roles changed and site access became more limited and controlled. Initially, and inevitably, the pace of site work slowed. We were dealing with a lot of unforeseen challenges that needed to be understood, planned for, and resolved safely. The situation needed sound decision making and clear communication. We decided to create an even tighter schedule, and that was a huge organisational undertaking, firstly for us, and then for the staff and contractors we were responsible for.
Despite the challenges we faced, we closed out a successful and profitable project in good time. But above and beyond that, we responded with a mindset of learning, development and positivity. At CTS we’ve created a culture where our people work hard and get looked after. We have good people who want to grow, progress and take on the responsibilities of leadership. This is why Southbank Place was such a success.
